ReddID

Identity for Social Payments

ReddID is a blockchain-based identity and naming layer designed to simplify social payments and tipping within the ReddCoin ecosystem. It was designed to make sending and receiving digital tips across social platforms fast, simple, and accessible to everyone.

ReddID introduces human-readable identifiers that can be associated with a ReddCoin wallet, reducing reliance on long cryptographic addresses. This allows anyone to send RDD tips across participating websites and social media platforms with just a click no long wallet addresses, no technical setup, and no steep learning curve.

Evolving Beyond the Original Plugin

An earlier implementation of ReddID demonstrated the feasibility of social tipping through browser-based integrations, using a simple, intuitive interface. While this early version proved that seamless social tipping works and attracted a strong community of supporters, it faced several limitations.

Architectural Limitations

Scalability

That initial approach revealed architectural limitations related to scalability, maintenance, and onboarding.

Compatibility

Maintenance and compatibility issues across browsers and platforms, reducing consistency across environments.

Usability

Complexity for new users, who needed to install and manage an extension, adding friction during setup overall

Expansion

Limited potential for future expansion due to its architecture, restricting flexibility over the longer term.

These constraints made it clear that a more robust, flexible, and scalable foundation was needed for ReddID to grow.

Rebuilt From the Ground Up In the Core Wallet

Current development work focuses on integrating ReddID functionality at the wallet and protocol level to improve reliability and extensibility. This new approach solves the earlier limitations and unlocks far greater potential.

Architectural Limitations

Native

Native blockchain-level functionality instead of relying on external plugins and systems

Performance

Improved performance and scalability for a larger global sustainable user base and usage

Onboarding

Streamlined onboarding, since no browser extension is required for new users

Security

Greater reliability and security through core-wallet integration and network stability

Expansion

A future-proof foundation for new features and cross-platform expansion and growth
The goal of this approach is to provide a more robust foundation for identity-based social payments and future cross-platform integrations.
